Making Cakes for Special Occasions
You may be asking yourself why anyone would make a cake for a dog. Why do dogs need cakes? Dogs need cakes for the same reasons that people do! For one thing, cakes taste good. For another thing, cakes make you smile. They demonstrate that someone is thinking of and cares about you. And, cakes usually mean that there’s a reason to get-together with friends and family — a reason for a party or a celebration. They can bring together the people who care about your dog. Or, you can simply provide a cake for your dog when you are having a cake for people. Why should your dog be left out when doggie cakes are so easy?

Most dog cakes are not so very different from human cakes. Most of them have a flour base of some kind, whether it’s wheat or some other kind of flour. They also have ingredients that dogs love, or can’t resist like bacon, peanut butter, chicken, or veggies. They might be decorated with items of special significance to your dog — you can have small toys on the cake to look like some of your dog’s favorite toys, for instance. Or, you can decorate a cake with things your dog particularly likes to eat, such as Pupperoni sticks standing in for candles.
Most dogs love parties so there’s really no reason not to include your dog when you have your own parties. You can make a cake just for her when you’re making food for your guests.
There are lots of occasions for your dog to have a party of their own and you can provide great cakes, whether you’re inviting people guests or just doggy guests:
Your dog’s birthday
Someone is getting a new puppy — a new puppy shower! This is a great way to help socialize the new arrival and bring a few needed supplies.
Is your pup a recent obedience school grad? You can show off your dog’s new knowledge and manners! You can even invite her classmates over for the party!
Going to a dog show or dog agility competition. It really doesn’t matter if you win or lose, what matters is that you had fun. Have a cake ready to celebrate after it’s all over. Invite the other dogs and their owners to come by and have a piece.
Important annual events and anniversaries. Was your dog adopted? Pet rescue and new starts are great reasons to celebrate! If you don’t know your dog’s birthday don’t let that stop you from celebrating each year. Have a party on the day you brought your dog home.
New neighborhood? Have you moved? Do you have new doggy neighbors? Invite them over for a piece of cake — one for you and your human neighbors, one for your dog and her new doggy neighbors. It’s a great way to make friends and to get off to a good start with your new neighbors. Maybe baking some doggy cupcakes would come in handy.
Not everyone likes to host parties. Maybe you prefer to keep things quiet. You can still have small parties for your dog. Maybe it is just your dog and your family; or a small celebration for you and your furry, four legged buddy. But do make your dog a cake. Dogs love cakes and the celebration that goes along with them.
There are always good reasons to celebrate when you have a dog. They are forgiving, and loving weather we deserve it or not. There is almost nothing in life as unconditional as their love. They deserve a few special days and a dog cake to go along with them. Don’t forget the presents and do consider your dog’s favorite flavors when you bake.
